Rise of the Runelords

The mighty empire of Thassilon fell ten thousand years ago, but it’s rulers, the Runelords, survived its destruction. Each a powerful wizard and master of magic related to the seven deadly sins, the Runelords removed themselves from the world and instituted methods for their eventual return.

In 4707 AR, Karzoug the Claimer, Runelord of Greed, approached his return to Golarion. As his lamia servants organized sacrifices of greedy souls throughout Varisia, he used the stone giant wizard Mokmurian to amass an army of greedy giants to raid human settlements and capture more greedy individuals. Each death, human or giant, fed the runewell in Xin Shalast and hastened Karzoug’s return.

A group of adventurers based out of Sandpoint uncovered Karzoug’s plots, slaying Mokmurian and eventually heading to the fabled city of Xin-Shalast itself to confront Karzoug. The Runelord was slain, and his plans to ressurect Thassilon in his image were thwarted.
